How to Say ‘Do not have to…’ in Korean?

Verbs/Adjectives-지 않아도 되다 expresses that a particular state of affairs or behavior is not necessary and is the negative form of -아/어야 되다/하다 which expresses the obligation to perform a particular behavior.

It corresponds to ‘does not have to’ in English. It is made by adding -지 않아도 되다 or 안 -아/어도 되다 to the verb stem.

Example:

금요일에는 정장을 입지 않아도 돼요. On Fridays, we don’t have to wear suits.

평일이니까 영화표를 미리 사지 않아도 돼요. Because it’s a weekday, we don’t have to buy tickets in advance.
